The Avalanche of Inquiries Regarding Our 12/19/2019 E-mail Campaign for “Medicare For All” (Second Quiz Q&A E-17)

The Suggested Answers to the Second Short Quiz have been greeted by an avalanche of inquiries regarding the identity of the decision maker(s) to whom the 12/19/2019 e-mail campaign for “Medicare for All” was directed [please see Q&A E-17].

The short answer is that it was directed at the Democrat Presidential Candidates.

The longer answer is provided in the following 10/26/2021 e-mail to the participants in the Harvard Law School Class of 1967 weekly Zoom chats –

(1) It explains why our long-standing campaigns starting in 2012 to promote Thorium Fission as the only practical solution to global warming (aka climate change) had, after many years, taken the form of trying to get the Moderators of the Democrat Presidential Candidates to ask the candidates about thorium fission.

[BTW, two of the candidates (Senator Cory Booker of NJ and Senator Michael Bennet of CO) had introduced the Nuclear Energy Leadership Act to accelerate the development of advanced nuclear reactor technologies.]

(2) It then explains why our unsuccessful efforts after the first five debates in 2019 (Miami June 26/27, Detroit July 30/31, Houston Sep 12, Westerville OH Oct 15, and Atlanta Nov 20) were terminated in order to counter Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s ignorant claim in endorsing “Medicare For All” that it would COST the U.S. Government $52 TRillion over 10 years RATHER THAN SAVING IT MONEY!!!

If you don’t want to read the entire following e-mail (AND LEARN ABOUT THORIUM FISSION), the results of our updated 12/19/2019 e-mail campaign were -

(1) Elizabeth Warren went silent on whether “Medicare For All” would cost the government anything; and

(2) Bernie Sanders began parroting our talking points that (A) The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reports that the percentage of American Gross Domestic Product (“GDP”) spent on healthcare is approximately twice the average of the other developed countries, and (B) the U.N.’s World Health Organization ranks “the health system performance” of the U.S. as only 37th in the world -- which means that since there were only 35 other members of the OECD, American healthcare is outranked by at least one third-world country.

HOWEVER, Bernie couldn’t quite bring himself to say that “Medicare for All” would save the U.S. Government $86 billion/year – presumably because he didn’t want to “stir up a hornet’s nest” with elements of the healthcare industry which spend zillions on lobbying.

Accordingly, there is attached –

(1) A 4/5/2019 letter to each of the Democratic Presidential Candidates from a non-partisan public-policy study/action organization that I have facilitated since 2005, and

(2) A 6/10/2019 cover letter to the Moderators of the First Democratic Presidential Debate.

[And the Suggested Answers to the SECOND Short Quiz in the cross-linked materials adds Europe’s and California’s “Hydrogen Highway” of two decades ago which provided 1,000-mile networks of hydrogen re-fueling stations with automobile manufacturers tweaking their gasoline engines to run on hydrogen and BMW even offering a model that could run on either gasoline or hydrogen depending on local availability during long-distance trips.]

[The Suggested Answers to the SECOND Short Quiz also covers the 8/19/2019 presentation of Proton Technologies (a Calgary Alberta-Canada corporation) to the Goldschmidt Conference announcing that it had invented (and obtained patents for) a method of obtaining vast amounts of hydrogen economically which involves injecting oxygen into reservoirs of heavy oil and tar sands, and into coal seams, in order to separate the hydrogen from the oil/tar/coal thereby enabling the hydrogen to float to the surface through hydrogen filters that will trap behind all remaining material including carbon for sequestration in situ.]

[BTW, Bill Gates never mentions hydrogen or Proton Technologies. Also BTW, our 11/13/2019 meeting which focused on Proton Technologies resulted in an e-mail campaign to the Assistant U.N. Secretary General for UNEP and also to the Director General of the UN’s Worldwide Intellectual Property Organization entitled “Saving Global-Warming Solution From Being Killed” recommending invalidation of any Proton patents if Proton were acquired by any malefactor (e.g., Saudi Arabia) that wanted to put the technology “on ice.”]

Additional Observations for Zane Cohn and Nancy Nemon

Zane mused that thorium can’t be that wonderful since it is NOT already in wide-spread use.

It is respectfully noted that the oil & gas industry and OPEC would each have taken action to “PUT THE FEAR OF GOD” into the public about nuclear -- if Hollywood had not already done so in order to “put fannies in the seats” and the news media had not also already done so in order to sell their product.

Nancy wondered at the end of our discussion how much solving global warming might cost her personally.

It is respectfully noted by someone who served 1974-1987 as Senior Tax Counsel of Texaco Inc. when it was still a Fortune-Ten company, that switching from oil & gas to nuclear actually saves consumers money because nuclear is so much cheaper than oil & gas.

For the curious, the reason that we did NOT continue bombarding the Debate Moderators after Atlanta on Nov 20 was that Presidential Candidate Elizabeth Warren issued a DEFAMATORY STATEMENT (defamatory toward Medicare-For-All) that it would COST the U.S. Government $52 TRillion over 10 years RATHER THAN SAVING IT MONEY!!!

By way of background, we had mounted an e-mail campaign entitled “Saving the U.S. Government $300 Billion/YEAR – Medicare-For-All” following our 7/12/2017 meeting and directed at Sen. John McCain, a mere 16 days before he made his iconic “thumb down” vote against “Repealing and Replacing” of Obamacare, causing “Repeal and Replace” to fail by one vote.

For the curious, the reason for the decline in ANNUAL savings from $300 Billion to $86 Billion was that the corporate tax rate had been reduced from 35% to 21%. The U.S. Census Bureau documented that as of 2018, 55.1% of the American population had employment-based insurance. Since the cost of such insurance is deductible to the employer and non-taxable to the employee, then a good estimate of the cost of this insurance to the U.S. government would be the 21% corporate income tax rate * 55.1% of the population = 11.6% of the economy’s total current healthcare costs. [This type of COST is called a “tax expenditure” in “Washington speak”!!!] The 11.6% cost at a 21% corporate rate had been 19.5% before the corporate tax rate reduction.

The results of our updated 12/19/2019 e-mail campaign -

(1) Elizabeth Warren went silent on whether “Medicare For All” would cost the government anything; and
