Quinnipiac Poll That NYC Blacks Support Proactive Policing

Post by johnkarls »

.
This Quinnipiac Poll is referenced in Q-4 of the Suggested Discussion Outline.

It was also referenced on p. 63 of “War on Cops” as follows --

“Many residents of high-crime areas don’t look at proactive and public-order enforcement the way their alleged advocates do. In a May 2015 Quinnipiac poll of New York City residents, 61 percent of black respondents said that they wanted the police to actively enforce quality-of-life laws in their neighborhoods, compared with 59 percent of white voters.”

Those stats come from the responses to the poll’s Q-24. It is interesting that a comparison of the Q-24 responses with the Q-25 responses indicates both blacks and whites want quality-of-life laws enforced EVEN THOUGH they recognize that doing so will increase tensions (presumably because the criminal elements of society are being inconvenienced).

BTW, there are four questions that relate to quality-of-life --

Q-23. Do you support or oppose having police issue summonses or make arrests for so-called quality of life offenses, low-level offenses such as drinking in public, selling small amounts of marijuana or making loud noise late at night?

Q-24. Do you want police to actively issue summonses or make arrests for so-called quality of life offenses in your neighborhood or not?

Q-25. What comes closer to your point of view: Police issuing summonses or making arrests for low-level offenses improves the quality of life in a neighborhood or Police issuing summonses or making arrests for low-level offenses adds to tension in a neighborhood?

Q-26. Do you think police should immediately arrest demonstrators who block traffic, or should police give demonstrators some leeway to avoid mass arrests?

Here is the May 2015 Quinnipiac poll --
