Original Proposal

.
Our focus on July 13th will be "America's Climate Problem, The Way Forward" by Robert Repetto (available from Amazon.com for $22.76 + shipping).

It was enthusiastically proposed after having been read by Ted Gurney, one of our retired U/U Biology Professors.

Robert Repetto is a Prof. at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and the President of Green-Think. He has also served as a Pew Fellow for Marine Conservation at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and as a member of the Economics Advisory Committee of the EPA's Science Advisory Board.

However, his background is economics = MS from the London School of Economics and PhD in Economics from Harvard. Before concentrating on environmental matters, he worked for the World Bank in Indonesia, for the Ford Foundation in India, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

I recommend we read “America’s Climate Problem, The Way Forward” by Robert Repetto (Earthscan 2011), available from your local library or from Amazon.com for $22.76 + shipping.

A testimonial from ex-Sen. Gary Hart, former member of Senate Environment Committee =

"As an accomplished educator, Professor Robert Repetto understands the importance of clarity and coherence of thought. As a creative economist, he knows the need for new and better ideas. In "America's Climate Problem", Professor Repetto achieves both. He explains the climate threat lucidly and persuasively. Most mportant, the new principle of "upstream cap and trade" as an imaginative concept designed to break our current political and economic logjam. We can only hope that this important book will be read in the White House and in Congress."
