Subject: CALL TO ACTION - "American Policy Toward Palestinians = The Key to Middle-East Peace" - ONLY 5 MINUTES NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE

Dear Friends,

Please note that our next meeting will be the THIRD Wednesday of November (the 18th) in order to avoid Veterans' Day.

We will focus on "General Motors and the EPA Perpetrating Fraud Re The Chevrolet Volt" (details can be found on our bulletin board = http://www.ReadingLiberally-SaltLake.org).

*****
CALL TO ACTION - "American Policy Toward Palestinians = The Key to Middle-East Peace" - ONLY 5 MINUTES NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE

We take pride in the fact that there are NO MORE THAN SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION between us and 100% of the American electorate.

And that, on important occasions, we can send to all of our friends and acquaintances an already-prepared e-mail (1) for them to send to America's decision maker(s) to influence governmental policy, and (2) for them to send to all of their friends and acquaintances to do the same in an unending chain.

At our meeting this past Wednesday, we decided that this is one of those occasions. That all of us should (1) contact President Barack Obama, and (2) contact all of our friends and acquaintances requesting them to do the same in an unending chain --

to urge President Obama to address the economic plight of the Palestinian refugees who live in abject poverty according to the CIA and whose numbers have grown according to the U.N. (which runs the refugee camps) from 750 thousand in 1950 to 4.6 million today.

Dear Friends,

For the last 60 years, the focus of the Arab-Israeli peace process has been on "land for peace" - in other words, an attitude toward the Palestinians that "You can have your own country if you stop bothering everyone else."

But that won't solve the real problem which is the economic plight of the Palestinians.

The web site for the U.N. Relief and Works Agency which runs the Palestinian refugee camps, reports that the number of refugees has grown from 750,000 in 1950 to 4.6 million today. The U.N. refugee camps are located in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza and the West Bank and the refugees live in abject poverty.

Indeed, the CIA's web site discloses that 683,484 of the total population for the West Bank and Gaza of 4,013,126 live in the U.N. refugee camps, and that the standard of living of the entire population (including non-refugees) is the equivalent of trying to live in the United States on $2,900/person/year - 6% of the U.S. standard of living and 10% of the Israeli standard of living.

What is necessary is a good education for the Palestinian children and training for the adults so that they can handle jobs that would go with economic development (construction, irrigation, manufacturing, etc.). Following a careful assessment of the comparative strengths that Palestine would possess.

The U.S. began providing Egypt and Israel with $6 billion/year of economic aid when they signed their 1979 Peace Agreement. It would seem a comparable amount would be a small price to pay to provide a real solution to a conflict that has festered for 60 years and, with nuclear arms soon to permeate the area, could soon produce a nuclear holocaust that might lead to "the twilight of the humans"!

I have received an e-mail from a friend requesting that all Americans contact President Barack Obama to urge that he consider an economic-development plan for the Palestinians as the real key to fostering peace.

If you agree with our proposal, please

(1) hit your e-mail forward button and put the e-mail addresses of all your friends and acquaintances into the address section so that, through no more than six degrees of separation to 100% of the American population, we reach everyone, and

(2) send to President Obama a copy of the following message at http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/ (which will require (A) inputting your name, an e-mail address and a ZIP code), (B) selecting "I Have A Policy Comment" from the pull-down menu for "Subject" and then (C) pasting the following message into the box provided.

President Barack Obama

Dear Mr. President:

Re: American Policy Toward Palestinians = The Key to Middle-East Peace

Thank you very much for all of the tireless efforts being exerted by you and your team!

To assist, I would like to offer a suggestion regarding the Arab-Israeli peace process.

For the last 60 years, the focus has been on "land for peace" - in other words, an attitude toward the Palestinians that "You can have your own country if you stop bothering everyone else."

But that won't solve the real problem which is the economic plight of the Palestinians.

The U.N. refugee camps are located in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza and the West Bank and the refugees live in abject poverty.

It would seem a comparable amount would be a small price to pay to provide a real solution to a conflict that has festered for 60 years and, with nuclear arms soon to permeate the area, could soon produce a nuclear holocaust that might lead to "the twilight of the humans"!

Thank you for your consideration.
